Be Thou At Peace
Posted by CPT Ryan Schrock on December 13, 2005:
When people say if you find two or three truly good friends in life, you have done well? That?s what KJ was to me, a brother. I never had a brother until I was 20, when I met KJ. KJ was the type of man that would give you the shirt off his back. Intensely devoted to his family and friends, KJ was the guy you could trust to be there for you when you needed him. He was there for me when I needed him. For those of you who knew KJ well, you know you can't describe him here in black and white. His presence, friendship and demeanor made all those around him love him.
I had the privilege to see him one last time three days before he died. I saw him with his Soldiers, they revered and respected him. His Battery and Platoon were impressive. His Soldiers were among the best I have seen, disciplined and professional. He was making a difference. He was right where he wanted to be. A patriot. A hero.
KJ's story of what it took for him to get where he was in life is a true testament to his character. He worked for nearly 8 years to get into and finally graduate USMA. His story is amazing. Exceptionally strong, courageous and a hard worker, KJ's life embodies the motto, DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY.
His Mother, Corina and Dana are in our prayers. Ladies if you ever need anything, ever, know that you can call on me and I will be there, anytime. I know without a doubt KJ would have been there for Christy and my boys had it been me.
Anyone who knew KJ well would know that he would not want anyone to morn his death. He was happy and proud to be where he was and what he was doing. He would want us to remember him, laugh about the great times we had and maybe hit the weight room more often to work on our skinny legs.
Farewell KJ. Be thou at peace brother, your work here on earth is done.
