Be Thou At Peace

Posted by George Woods on December 14, 2005:

To Dana and KJ?s family-

KJ had a smile that would light up a room in an instant. He was a superb friend, officer and man. I remember when he and his other two wingman young buddies came bounding into my office in the late summer 2003. As their first S1, I told them that they were being assigned to the cavalry squadron, and that they would be deploying a few days. Then that changed and they weren't. And then they were. Finally, I told them they had all missed the war, and that everyone would be home by Christmas. Oh how wrong I was.

KJ will be sorely missed, yet his life and his sacrifice will always be an inspiration to me. Robert E. Lee wrote, "Duty is the most sublime word in our language. You should never do less, and you could never do more." Without a doubt KJ certainly did his Duty, to his soldiers, to his friends, and to his country.

Well Done. Be Thou at Peace.
