Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Kristen & William on December 14, 2005:
To friends, family, and anyone who knew Kevin, there is nothing I can say that could express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. Kevin was nothing less than a blessing from God, and a true hero.
My husband, 1LT William Orkins and I knew KJ for two years. William also, who is currently serving in Iraq, had the honor of serving with Kevin. William attended his Memorial in Iraq, December 11th. They spoke of his life, the type of person he was, and his dedication to his family and country. He was served with a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and coins from 3 Generals.
KJ was always such a giving person, and was by far one of the most genuine. Several times he offered to come help me with things around the house since William was gone. I will always remember all the little things; Talking about Real Estate, talking about how much he loved soccer, his experiences at Westpoint, or how we almost ceased the engine in the ol' RV. But most of all we will remember his legacy.
The dictionary defines a hero as a legendary figure, an illustrious warrior, endowed with great strength or ability, a man admired for his achievements. In our eyes KJ was just that; the true meaning of a hero. After all I believe that is all he wanted to be. He laid down his life for a cause he so adamantly believed in, and for that his legacy will live on.
Kevin has taught me many valuable lessons, and for that he will always hold a special place in my heart.
Dana, you are in ALL of our thoughts and prayers. You know we are always here for you, and we will stand by your side to see you through. You, and his family, were blessed with such a remarkable person in your life, as the rest of us were. Just know that someday you will join him in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Kevin, although we wish you were still here, we know you are in a better place where you can watch over and protect us. Not a day goes by that we don't think of you and what you sacrificed for all of us. We love and miss you so very much.
Rest in peace our dear friend, your work here is done.
Love always and forever, your friends Kristen and William Orkins
