Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dan Areshenko on December 26, 2005:

I did not know Ben at school, but had the unforgettable privilege of getting to know him during OBC and am most thankful for that. Ben was the most genuine and humorous guy I've ever met. Regardless of how bored, hot, cold, or miserable we were, Ben always kept our spirits up with his quick wit and timely jokes. I remember him joking about our five year reunion, how instead of returning to the bad place in cold New York, we should host our own "alternative reunion" in Acapulco! And I remember when we returned from Ranger School and Ben had just seen one of our OBC platoon trainers...his laugh as he recalled SSG Jackson affectionately saying, "Lieutenant Britt, I see you kept your mouth shut long enough to graduate." Ben always had a good quip to throw back at whoever. I could recount the good times and funny moments forever. I did not know him a long time, but he had a huge impact on me that I will never forget, and I can only imagine how far he's impacted others. Ben lived a fuller life in 24 years than most live in a hundred. Take care and I'll see you up there someday Ben.
