Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Larry Milam on December 28, 2005:

On behalf of the entire West Point family in the High Plains, I'd like to extend our collective sympathy to Ben's family and loved ones. We share the pain and deep sense of loss you feel, for we have felt it many times before.

Take comfort in knowing that Ben met the challenge General MacArthur made to the Corps in his last speech, "Duty, Honor, Country - those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you want to be, what you can be, what you will be."

Finally, a few passages from the Cadet Prayer that are particularly appropriate for Ben:
"Encourage us in our endeavor to live above the common level of life. Make us to choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong..."

"Help us to maintain the honor of the Corps untarnished and unsullied and to show forth in our lives the ideals of West Point in doing our duty to Thee and to our Country."

Be thou at peace.
