It was my privilege to serve as pastor to Stephen's parents during the loss of Stephen. Their love for Stephen and respect for his decision to serve his country was a tribute to the family and their faith. Reading the accounts of Stephen's achievements and listening to the testimonies of his faith and courage put the price of freedom in vivid perspective. I will never forget the comment from the base commander at Fort Irwin at the close of the memorial service, "Freedom is not cheap." Stephen left a wife, son, family and host of friends with an untarnished legacy of faith, courage and strength. I regret not having had the privilege of knowing him personally. Wayne Kraiss |
