Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jonathan Hilton on January 19, 2006:

To the family of MAJ Hecker please accept my deepest and sincerest condolences for your lost. I was a West Point graduate of the class of 2004. During 2003 I came to know MAJ Hecker through Officer's Christian Fellowship. It was a guys class that they had started to go over some men's christian literature like Wild at Heart. MAJ Hecker was truly a man of God who sought to do His will and acted as a Godly example for us to follow. He showed cadets like me what it meant to be a father, husband, and officer. He also set the example as a model officer that cadets like me could look up to and was always available to talk to about the Army. I write this email from Iraq where I know the courage and determination of such men as MAJ Hecker to bring a hope and a future to a people that have so long been oppressed by a brutal and evil regime. He is truly a hero and a patriot, America has lost one of its most endeared sons. In light of all of this, I know that this man of God left the struggles of this earth to hear the words, "Well done good and faithful servant" and now lives in glory. Sir, be thou at peace.
