Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Erin Sauvager on February 5, 2006:

I met KJ quite a few years ago, when he was attending West Point. Our paths crossed on Interstate 95, of all places! We always laughed about what a great story that was: On my way to Myrtle Beach for July 4th, a group of guys passed us on the interstate - obviously seeking attention from anyone willing to give it! KJ was one of those guys, and I still cannot believe that I pulled over to the side of the road - a stupid move, as we both agreed later, but definitley one I would never regret. I will cherish those memories. From that one encounter on I95, I was blessed with the experience of knowing a friend that was like no other. His love for life was inspiring. He always had words of kindness, encouragement, and optimism. KJ was probably the most fun and fun-loving person I have ever known. I am better for having known him and he will never know the impact that he had on me. Although it had been years since I had seen him, we kept in touch, and I am very thankful for that. He will be greatly missed and thought of often.

I am so sorry for the loss that his family, friends, and fiancee have experienced - you all are in my thoughts and prayers. May KJ's optimism, confidence, and faith live on in all of you. It is so hard to believe that he is gone - for someone who truly lived life - his was simply too short. The last chance that I had to speak with KJ, he was telling me about Dana. I could practically feel him smiling as he typed. The same positve impact that KJ had on others, Dana had on him. And, I am sorry that he did not have more time to enjoy that with her and his family.

KJ served our country proudly and honorably. God Bless all of our soldiers and their families, who continue to be our heros in both life and death.

In loving memory,

Erin (I95gal)
