William Fredrick Hecker

West Point, 1991

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Hundley on February 10, 2006:

My nephew, William F. Hecker III, was an American patriot killed in combat serving his Country. He believed in God, family and Country. He was a 1991 graduate of West Point, taught English there for three years, and exemplified commitment to the United States Military Academy values of Duty, Honor, and Country. He is a descendant of Hundley family ancestors who were early Virginia settlers that fought and died in the Revolutionary War which brought about the founding of this great Country of ours. Then as now, our Country needs patriots willing to put their lives on the line in the cause of American freedom. It seems fitting to me that my nephew is buried at West Point, which was a Revolutionary Army post where George Washington once camped. My nephew was an intellectual and scholar, not mindless soldier who was brain-washed into serving his country as some anti-military politicians would portray our troops. My nephew believed in his mission. His sacrifice on the altar of American freedom should be a call for all American citizens to support our troops and the family a fallen soldier leaves behind.
