Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Sue on April 4, 2006:
Happy Birthday, Stephen
I remember vividly 30 years ago today. Little did we know that a miracle was waiting for us April 4, 1976. I was in the early stages of labor when we arrived at the hospital. Shortly after the nurses placed the monitor on me I heard my doctor's name being paged. That did not seem like a good sign but the miracle was unfolding. The doctor arrived quickly and told me you were in fetal distress. You needed to be delivered immediatley.
When I awoke from surgery Dad and a nurse were standing over me saying I had a red haired son. My thought was "but is he alive?" The doctor later told me if it had been just ten minutes longer you would have not lived. You are our miracle child and we had a bonus of 29 terrific years with you.
The following verse has brought hope and comfort to me this year: "My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place...All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." Psalm 139:15-16. Truly all of our times are in His hands.
God knew the day you were born that you would die 29 years later by the rivers of Babylon. He also knew the day you were born that I would be a mother mourning the death of my precious son 29 years later. Just as it was your desire to glorify Him in the desert of Iraq, it is my prayer that I will glorify Him in my mourning the loss of you.
Stephen I will forever be grateful for those 29 bonus years and how you grew to be a mighty man of God.
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" Psalm 116:15
