Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Curt Lowry on April 21, 2006:

When I came to West Point in the summer of 2001, I was not there for the right reason. I was there to prove people wrong and prove to myself that I could make it. Looking back now I realize that I would never have made it. My reasons for attending the Academy shifted due to the mentorship of my Team Leader, Ben Britt. I remember many a morning standing on the wall outside Ben's room talking about the Army and the honor of serving our country. His personal courage and selfless service were evident even then and inspired me to become the man I am today. If it wasn't for Ben I would most likely not have finished the Academy. If it wasn't for Ben I would most likely not have the personal pride and dedication to the profession of arms that I have today. I owe so much to Ben for his mentorship to me through my time at the Academy. I knew him first as my superior and later as a close personal friend. I am going to miss you, Ben. You and your sacrifice will not be forgotten. I will see you again on the other side, my brother.
