Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dave Strickler on May 21, 2006:

I have had the honor of calling Rob my friend since July of 2000, when we were New Cadets. Everyone who has worked with him can say that he was an outstanding officer, and an even better friend.

Two weeks ago, I remember sitting on a mud roof and eating an MRE with Rob after we had finished a 10 k movement to the Northwest of Baghdad. One of his SAW gunners had become a heat injury during the movement, and Rob carried that soldier's pack, in addition to his own, for the remainder of the mission. That's just one of many examples of what a great leader and friend Rob was to so many of us.

His loss has hit our Battalion very hard; Rob's soldiers and NCOs say on a routine basis that he was the best Platoon Leader they have ever served under, and I know they absolutely mean it. He led from the front, and was a positive role model to more of his soldiers and peers than he will ever know.

My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to Rob's family. He spoke of them all the time, and loved them very much. 2-22 will miss you, brother.
