Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Joseph "Joa" Schwinn on May 29, 2006:

Tom Lomas Schwinn was my father. He was a lawyer in Wellington, Kansas. He practiced with his father, William "Joe" Schwinn, who had practiced with his father William "Tip" Schwinn. He was named after his uncle, Tom Schwinn, who was killed in WWI. The American Legion Post in Wellington was named after my great-uncle Tom. My father named his first son, Tom, my brother who lives in New York. My father drank quite a bit, but was known as a guy that knew how to have fun. He left my mom and us kids when we were pretty young, but he was still around and helped support us. I know he had a lot of friends; at his funeral the procession of cars spanned the entire width of the town of Wellington. He served in the occupation forces in Japan. He was proud to have been a member of the long gray line. He was my father.
