Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Aaron Close on May 30, 2006:

Never have I met a more professional officer/Soldier/leader than Doug. Even more impressive, though, was his integrity and blue-collar work ethic. Doug always took the higher road and had no problem facing the adversity of doing so.

Doug and I battled through re-orgy week together as roommates and during those tough times we developed a great friendship that would carry throughout and beyond our years at the Academy. From his constant pleads of "Live, Free, or Die!" to his relentless effort to be the best in everything, Doug was a special person. He is the type of person you are lucky to meet once in your life, and whose impact will never be lost. I thank God I had the opportunity to be friends with Doug. Not just because he personally got me through our plebe computer science class, but because he was always a calming force during the chaos of the year.

Although our emails were few and far between after we left WP, I have always viewed Doug as a true, lifetime friend. This is an absolute tragic loss to the Army, West Point, Doug's family and his many friends.

My prayers are with Nic, Dakin, and Doug's entire family.
