Douglas A. Dicenzo

West Point, 1999

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bobby Bran on May 31, 2006:

Losing Doug isn't just a loss for the Dicenzo Family or the Army-- it's a loss for the entire country. Doug was one of the most courageous, energetic, and inspiring leaders of our generation. He was quiet and humble, but that didn't change the fact that his actions epitomized inspiration and integrity, and anyone who met him knew that. He was a man, as he once told us in a yearling meeting, who enjoyed the challenge of competing against superior odds, and that's what he did his entire life.

Doug will forever be remembered, by me and others, as a hero who took the weight of the world on his shoulders-- and wasn't afraid to carry it as far as he could for the rest of us. He was selfless service. He was Duty. He was Honor. He was Country. He was everything the rest of us could ever want to be; he was everything the rest of us should ever want our children to be.

And he will be missed, but he will never be forgotten. Let him now inspire us with his quiet strength, as he watches us now from Heaven.
