Be Thou At Peace

Posted by CPL Bork on August 24, 2006:

Cpt August,

As so much time has gone by, I feel sad to have taken this long to find this area to write a thought. As your driver for the 4 months prior to that dreadful day, I only regret one thing; that I had other obligations keeping me from being there on that day. I never seemed to be able to show my true colors, and be the best soldier I could be after that. Time faded away, and our mission continued on, but I was not in the best of times. I tell myself, "if I could go back and have the chance to do it over, I would not fight the continued mission, but embrace it as you would have done, as a challenge to be taken head on. No complaint, no challenge of the system. Just pure selfless service. I know we cannot change the past, I just want to let you know that I am going back in to fullfill my obligation to be a better soldier. Thanks for the time back on Riley, and backing me up as a support MOS. I guess some guys just don't take it like everyone else. I am glad I have the chance to work on my shortfalls. I pray to meet up with you again someday, when times are not such as these, and those that have passed on will be able to voice their concern to whom that we will all go to meet one day.

Your soldier.
