| I remember the death of Jeff Riek in February 1970. I was operating radios in a C&C helicopter over the firefight when Jeff was killed. Jeff was a Recon Platoon Leader and was leading his men from the front as we had been taught. He exemplified the word courage. Just a few days prior to his death, we had talked extensively about our in-country experiences. I had the sad duty of drafting the letter from my boss to his parents. His was a life full of promise that was ended too soon. |
