Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Scott Richardson on September 18, 2006:

I was Emily's Track & Field Coach at West Point and recruited her to the Academy. She was a part of my very best recruiting class at USMA. Emily had tremendous zeal for life. She attacked everything she did with a fervor that was unmatched by anyone I know. Whether it was her school work, athletics, her responsibilities as Brigade Sergeant Major, or singing in the Gospel Choir, Emily was just about as involved as you could be at West Point, and not afraid to take charge. She was successful in all of these endeavors and many others as well, I'm sure. Her faith was very strong and serves as inspiration to me still.

I admire Emily more than I ever let on, though I think she knew she was special to me. It was heartwarming to me when she called me this past fall to congratulate me on my new job and engagement. It helped me realize just a how thoughtful she was to take the time to congratulate me as she was preparing to depart for Iraq.

What a blessing it is to have known her. This is indeed a great loss to USMA, the Army, the Nation, and all of Mankind. Oh but what a joyous arrival in Heaven! God has called you home.

We love and miss you, Emily!
