Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Leigh McGurk on September 18, 2006:

Emily was a strong, determined woman with the faith to move mountains. She was always smiling and a friend to anyone she knew. I still remember the march back from Lake Frederick after Beast. Emily and I were in the same platoon. My parents were waiting at Round Pond in hopes to get a glimpse of me as I marched by. When we stopped at Round Pond, Emily and I went into the latrine and my mother followed us. She gave both Emily and I the biggest, tightest hug either of us had received in weeks. I remember my mother telling Emily that was her "mama hug." I ran into Emily here in Iraq and I still remember that she was smiling even while telling me about some "trifflin'" people she'd had to deal with. She will be greatly missed, but she will live on in my memory forever. I know Emily was happy to hear the words of Matthew 25:21 "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!"
