I am the Command Sergeant Major for the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division currently serving in Iraq. 2LT Perez was serving proudly in the BCT when she left this world. She was the kind of young officer that any CSM would be proud to serve with. I had adopted her as my daughter. She would always remind me that she also had time as a CSM. She was truly a wonderful young lady and a extremely fine officer. We all miss her dearly. She had a wealth of friends in the brigade and always led her Soldiers from the front. She served as the director of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Duke Gospel Choir and would always attend chapel service when not on mission. I am a better CSM and person because I had the honor of knowing and serving with 2LT Emily Perez. She will always be in my heart and mind.
