Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Maureen Rodgers on December 13, 1999:

This is a memory that I would like to pass on to Nicholas and Luke. A little over two years ago when Auntie Betsy and I were roommates, She and Auntie Meggie were getting ready to leave for Ireland. Your mom and dad had driven Auntie Meg up to Boston to see them off. I think Nicholas that you had stayed with your Gram, but Luke you were with us that day. Anyway, a bunch of the guys ( I think Fran, Peter, and Billy) were going to a Red Sox game that afternoon and they wanted your dad to go. I remember him being on the phone with Uncle Peter(convincing him to go). I'm sure that he wanted to go,but his main concern was your mom. Apparently he had been out recruiting that week, and he wanted to relieve your mom of some responsibility this particular day. What was so great about your dad was he didn't have to think twice about what to do, he wanted to make his family happy before himself and he was so willing and eager to do so. I think your mom finally insisted that he go to the game and he did enjoy himself that day. What I want to impress upon you two is how much your dad loved you and your mom, he was a very rare and genuine individual whom I was privileged to know. This is just a small example of how important you are to him and always will be. Love, Marina
