I knew Emily as her teacher at West Point. She sat in the front row and always, always had something relevant to say. After seeing how much effort she put into her studies and how well she did, I tried to convince to major in Environmental Engineering. She didn't but I was proud that she picked the Medical Service Corps as her branch. Her optimism and pure love of life was and still is an inspiration. I remember seeing her after the Plebe March back in 2004 and while everyone was resting and shuffling around, she was energetically moving from person to person checking on them. One of her e-mails to me had the following quote at the end: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." ~I Corinthians 2:9 Rest in Peace, Emily. |
