I was stationed on the same FOB as 2LT Emily Perez in Iraq. I only knew her in passing as we tracked the same routes to work, chow, and the living areas for 9 months. I was hurt and pained when I learned of her untimely death. I've read how she has touched so many lives in such a short period of time. I've been inspired by that. I have a daughter and when she gets older I want her to be just like Emily -- a rare and precious jewel that will never be forgotten. My deepest sympathy goes out to Emily's family and friends.
