Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tara Quinn on October 26, 2006:

Dear Jill and Riley,

The first time I met Amos, he didn't even introduce himself, but rather told me a story that had me laughing so hard I fell off the couch I was sitting on. And that was Amos. He lit up a room when he entered it and he was always up to something. He had the gift of also having a more serious side, the side that talked about you and his sister and Missouri with such love, and the side that was fiercely loyal, especially to his country and corps.

In a short time he became family and he and Travis are truly the brothers Sean never had. I am eternally grateful to you for raising such a wonderful man that became like a brother to me as well. When I spoke to him three weeks ago, our conversation ended, as usual, with much laughter.

Amos loved Hemingway and this is from A Farewell to Arms:
"The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry."

Your son will always be remembered as one of the very good, the very gentle, and the very brave. Thank you for giving him to us.

He will never be forgotten.

Amos, be thou at peace.

Much love, Tara Quinn (Sean's sister)
