Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Pixler, Ross Carlos on October 27, 2006:

After having been yelled at for not knowing the Code of Conduct verbatum I was instructed to turn around and meet my first Team Leader. I did an about face and in so doing scuffed Amos' shoes something fierce. He was about 2 inches from my face. This was the first time I met Amos. He eventually gave me more space, but not much. For the rest of that first semester Amos taught me just about everything I needed to know to succeed at West Point. I will never forget how, for those first few days before school started he made sure I had everything I needed. He walked with me to get my books, to buy school supplies, my telephone, and my computer. I had never put a computer together and so he did not hesitate to show me how. He was more than just a team leader to me, he was a brother. Whenever I had a problem he was the person to go to and when an upperclassman was giving me grief he intervened.

Amos was a man with immense character. He had a zest for life and shared it with the world. I am proud to have called him a friend. He influenced and touched the lives of all who met him. His memories and spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him. To his family, those who knew him best, thank you for sharing him with the world. You raised a remarkable, kind, gentle soul for whom I am a better person for having met and known.
