Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Lance Hublick on December 1, 2006:
It is always difficult to write these as this is the 2nd good friend I have lost in the span of a year. Dave was my room-mate 2nd semester firstie year. I remember we had planned to go fishing in and around Anchorage after I got back from this deployment, we had a calendar of different fishing spots in our room firstie year. Dave was just an all around good guy. He was a devout Christian and the Lord know's he has a better shot at getting into heaven then I do. I think I definitely grew as a person my last semester because of being Dave's room-mate. Everyone always new he was a fast runner but he used to tell me it wasn't because he was naturally talented, it was because he worked hard. Hard work was Dave's life. He balanced being a Div 1 level athlete with one of the more difficult majors the academy had to offer (perhaps even the most difficult). I remember he was excited to post to Ft. Hood because he was going home to Texas. Dave was a true Texan at heart. I also remember showing up to Ranger School, where Dave had been a recycle for 8 weeks due to best Ranger, and watching him run a 10:00 2 mile on day 1. The RI's were amazed that someone could run so fast. They were even more amazed that someone could run so fast after being a recycle for 2 months. True to Dave's personality he went straight through the rest of Ranger School and went back home to Texas then here to Iraq. I talked to Dave not too long ago and he was excited to be going home soon. It is fitting that he be buried in Texas, so that this time he will finally go home and stay home. Dave, I'll miss you on our fishing trip and the world will miss someone of your character.
