I will never forget Paul. One lasting memory of mine is from January 1969, when Paul and I traveled with LTC Tony DeLuca, our Regimental Tactical Officer, to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, to speak with prospective cadets and parents about West Point. Following our presentations and discussions on Friday evening, LTC DeLuca gave us the remainder of the weekend in Kansas City, freeing us up to report back to West Point Sunday evening for supper. Paul & I thoroughly enjoyed that great city (even in the dead of winter!), ate some wonderful Kansas steaks, saw a newly released Steve McQueen movie, walked and talked about life, and just enjoyed each other's company. I still clearly recall buying my girlfriend (now wife) a gift there and calling her to tell her what a great time we were having away from West Point's interminable Glum Period. Thinking back on that weekend now, it was as if we were given a brief rest free of immediate responsibilities in the hectic months leading to graduation and afterward to Vietnam. Yes, I will always remember Paul as a friend, a man of integrity, and a brother in arms. I thank the Lord I knew him and I'm proud to be his classmate.
