George R. Fullerton, 71, a retired Army colonel who was a physics instructor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and commander of procurement computer system operations, died of pneumonia March 17, 2000 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Colonel Fullerton, an Annandale resident since 1985, was a native of
Massachusetts and a 1950 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy.

Colonel Fullerton received master's degrees in electrical engineering and industrial engineering from Stanford University, then returned to West Point in the early 1960s to serve as the first director of the department of theoretical physics.

In the mid-1960s, he was a signal officer in the 38th Artillery Brigade in Korea.

He later directed the combat service support system of the computer system command at Fort Belvoir, then served as commanding officer of the computer systems support and evaluation command at Fort Myer before retiring in 1971.

He became director of contracts for Washington area technology companies, including Computer Sciences Corp. and IBIS Corp.

His military decorations included the Legion of Merit.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Constance H. Fullerton of Annandale; three sons, Lawrence R., of Fairfax, Donald H., of Austin, and James D., of Clifton; three daughters, Linda Fullerton Misener of Portland, Maine, and Leslie Fullerton and Laura Fullerton, both of Fairfax; two brothers; and 12 grandchildren.

On March 17, 2000, beloved husband of Constance H. Fullerton; loving father of Lawrence R. Fullerton, Donald H. Fullerton, James D. Fullerton, Laura Fullerton, Leslie Fullerton and Linda F. Misener; brother of Albert L. and John H. Fullerton; adored grandfather of twelve. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 9 a.m. at Fort Meyer Chapel, where interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. A reception will follow at Spates
Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the the Roxbury Latin School, 101 St. Theresa Ave., W. Roxbury, MA 02132-3496.
