I will always remember Brian as a steady force in all situations, no matter how turbulent. The qualities that I witnessed, first as a classmate and later as a fellow officer, were both inspiring and reassuring. His passing is felt deeply by us all. I do not pretend to understand the hardship and emotions that come in the wake of such a tragic event, but I do know that as long as there are those that would do us harm there will be the need for brave men and women to stand in defense of this country. Brian answered the call, notwithstanding the great sacrifices that serving selflessly entails. For that, and the life of purpose and inspiration that he left us to emulate, I give my solemn thanks.
