Be Thou At Peace

Posted by 1LT Lyndi Koch on January 28, 2007:

Jake and I spent three years at West Point together in the same company. After graduation, we endured BOLC II together and we went our seperate ways. Even though he was far away in Alaska, and I in North Carolina, we still kept in touch over the phone. I remember when we learned we both were going to deploy around the same time and we wished each other safe trips and we said our goodbyes. I prayed that he, and all my other many classmates overseas, stayed out of harms way and would come home safe and sound.

I found about Jake's death when I went online to check my e-mail. Being here in Iraq, I don't always get to know everything that's going on...when I learned of his death I was completely devastated. I went on the rest of the day just thinking about him and how I loved him like a brother. Nights at the cow club, the firstie club, and everything else we endured together. He was truly one of my best friends and I will miss him more than words can say. I will never forget his great smile and his wonderful personality. He is truly a hero and I will never forget him.

To his family, I am so sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to you. May he rest in peace.
