Be Thou At Peace

Posted by David Smith on January 30, 2007:

Jake,

I am still finding it hard to believe that you are gone. You were one of my best friends at West Point; somehow our paths always seemed to intertwine--either in Lee Barracks, in the classrooms of System Engineering Department, opposing each other down at the River Courts during Intramurals, spending almost every Thursday together down at the Cow or Firstie Club, and finally at Artillery branch meetings and school in Oklahoma. I remember how much fun we had going back and forth arguing about A1 vs. B1, Bud light vs. Coors light, Artillery vs. every other branch. Our times together gave us the chance to hang out with a kindred spirit, no matter what was happening at school we always managed to laugh it off and have a good time. I will never forget the memories I have of such a great man as you. Your actions inspired us all to try harder and dream bigger. Your impact on myself, your classmates, and your soldiers cannot be measured in words but only in the legacy you left behind. Jacob Fritz: a first rate guy, an exceptional brother in arms, and a true patriot.
