I learned of Jake?s death at breakfast in the DFAC over here a few days ago, while reading the Stars and Stripes. I hadn't yet had a chance to read our class email. It certainly took me by surprise. While I did not know Jake very well, I will always remember the levity he added to the nights spent in Mahan Hall, crowded into the computer labs, each of us working on some sort of Systems Engineering project. It could be close to Taps, with each of us stressing about something due the next day, and he would undoubtedly make us laugh. I am certain that the charisma he showed in the classroom is part of what made him a great leader. To his friends, family, and Soldiers ? please know that so many thoughts and prayers are with you. Well done Jake, be thou at peace. |
