Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Michael E. Haith COL (R) USMA 1975 on March 1, 2007:

Mr. and Mrs. Fritz,
Please accept my heartfelt sympathies for the loss of your magnificent son, Jacob, who I knew very well when I was the Director of the Simon Center at West Point from 1999-2004, before leaving for Iraq myself in July. He worked for the Center during one summer and we talked often of his desire to serve as an officer in the Army. Afterwards he came by often and I always enjoyed his infectious enthusiasm and dedication to USMA and the Army. He is also my son Matt's classmate. We are all crushed by the news of his loss. While there are no words to diminish your grief, please be comforted in some small way by the knowledge that he is a reflection of you and your values sustained him in life. We who knew him are blessed forever by his too brief presence in our lives and his passing leaves us empty. His sacrifice humbles us all. We will celebrate his life as a gift.

Sincerely,
Michael E. Haith
