JOHN C. PICKERING
LAWRENCE - John C. Pickering, 75, died Friday at Deborah Heart & Lung Center, Browns Mills.
Born in Topeka, Kansas, he lived in New Jersey 35 years.
He retired in 1969 after 22 years as a lieutennant colonel from the Air Force. More recently he was a certified public accountant with Groendyke and Co., Lawrence retiring in 1995.
He was a pilot and flew 12 B-29 combat missions over Korea. He also flew 28 missions over Korea as a forward air controller in a T-6.
He was active with Lawrence senior citizens Club 3 and a member of Certified Public Accountants Society, West Point Alumni and Harvard Business School associations.
Col. Pickering graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. in 1948, received a master's degree from Harvard Bsiness School in 1954 and a bachelor's degree in commerce from Rider College in 1971.
Son of the late Ben and Vera Crews Pickering, he is survived by his wife, Veronica Bradley Pickering; a son, Michael of Milford, N.H.; a daughter, Jennifer Pickering of Merrimack, N.H.; two brothers, George of Littleton, Colo., and Tom of Los Osos, Calif., two grandchildren, Heather and Coleen Pickering; brothes-in-law, sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral with full military honors will be 11 a.m. Dec. 13 at the chapel of Brig. Gen. William C.Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are by Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors.
