SOUTHINGTON

Walter F. Marciniec, Col. (Ret.) U.S. Army of Copper Ridge, Southington, passed away on Sunday ( April 9, 2000 ) of heart disease in Huntington Beach, CA while visiting his son, Steve. He was born on August 6, 1925 in Southington. Walt graduated from Lewis High School in 1943, The U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1948, and the University of Illinois with a Master's Degree in Engineering in 1954.

He served his country as an officer in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring as a colonel in 1970. He went on to his civilian career as a construction manager for several national construction companies until 1988. He and his son, Tom founded Marciniec Construction Company in 1988, and operated it until 1992 when he retired.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Carol Kirschner Marciniec; six children, John, Mary, Barbara, Thomas, Stephen, Richard and their spouses; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Jenny Urillo and family.

He will be remembered as a treasured friend, a devoted husband, a generous, loving father and a patient, kind and gentile "Poppy".

Walter honored our Earth with his service. He worked hard, sacrificed much, and generously shared with all he knew in order to make our world a better place. He blessed our lives and added joy to our days.

Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, at Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home in Southington. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 13, 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Southington. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
