LAKE GEORGE CHURCHILL JR., COLONEL (RET) US ARMY
Lake lived a full life with integrity and honor. He left his physical body on Thursday, January 20, 1995.
Although he was born in Galesburg, Illinois, where his ancestors were original settlers, and his great-grandfather founded the public school system, he considered El Paso, Texas his home. It was there that he met and married Jimi Cannon Churchill. Their children are Lake, George III, and Daria Renee Churchill.
Lake grew up in Washington, D.C. where he graduated from Western High School and Sullivan's Preparatory Academy. Lake had a rewarding and distinguished military career, graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He commanded a batallion in Vietnam, 10th Artillery Group in Darmstadt, Germany and served as Chief of Staff of Fort Bliss, Texas. He ended his career in Utah, where he obtained a Master's Degree in Business from the University of Utah while serving as commander of Fort Douglas for three years.
Lake was very interested and involved in the Salt Lake community and devoted his time to many civic activities, such as Salt Lake area Chamber of Commerce: President's Club; "Salt Shakers"; Junior Achievement; Kiwanis; Utah Chapter, National MS Society (Chairman, Board of Trustees); Salt Lake Arts Council (Vice Chairman); Very Special Arts Utah (Board of Directors); Salt Lake Arts Festival; Odyssey House of Utah; Utah Council, Federal Executive Association; Christian Businessmen Committee and National Eagle Scout Association.
A celebration of Lake's life will be held Monday, January 30, at 3 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 525 Park Ave., Park City Utah. Internment will be with military honors at Fort Bliss, Texas.
"Thee is a God." "There is more out there than meets the eye." "There is a tomorrow, and I'm certain I'll be in it."
