Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Wingman #1 on April 25, 2007:

Isaiah 12:2 Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation."

Nicholas A. Rossini. Son, Brother, Friend. Jokester and Genious. Beer connoisseur, and frequenter of bars and Cop cars. Our adventures would take us from Summer training to Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Annapolis (well almost Annapolis). As our relationship grew I was lucky enough to spend most of my time with Nick. We shared pots of coffee, sumptuous MRE snacks, laughs, and inside jokes. Throughout this time, I learned a lot about Nick and a little more about life.

Nick taught me about the power of a smile and a positive attitude. . His grin and laughter were trademarks in every conversation I had with him and always brought a smile to my face. No matter how dismal a situation we found ourselves in, Nick never failed to believe everything would be all right.

Some might not know this about Nick, but the people that do know it well. That is that Nick helped everyone with everything they needed without caring about getting anything in return. Whether it was a quick chat, putting a rifle together, or some good tutoring, Nick was there for you. Nicks friends back home remember him teaching Calculus on a chalk board in his basement, while I personally preferred the napkin at lunch technique. And even though we had no idea what we were doing up at the hockey rink he was still the first to offer a helping hand.

If there is one thing to remember and learn from Nick it is this: He loved his family and always let them know that. All the trivial calls, letters, and pictures are now priceless slivers of Nick held in the hearts of the Rossini family. Take heed of his example and apply it to your life.

Miss Me - But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, Why cry for a soul set free.

Miss me a little, but not too long, And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me, but let me go.

For this journey we all must take, And each must go alone. It's all a part of the Master's plan, a step on the road to home.

When we are lonely and sick at heart, Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, Miss me, but let me go.

~Anon

Nick touched many people and will be missed, but to any of you that are grieving: Take a moment to remember him and you?ll know that he would rather you celebrate life than dwell on his death. Recognize the lessons we can learn from his life. For Nick, have a beer, they taste good. Help others whenever you can, you never know how much it might mean. Call your family and tell them you love them, you never know when it?s your last chance. Smile, everything is going to be alright.
