Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Mike Wallis on May 31, 2007:

I am writing this at a rather late date. Lance was in my E-2 company for the first two years, the legendary march, went to Airborne school with him, ..., etc. And indeed, he was destructively, to himself and others, too over the top, too intense. But I learned a great lesseon from Lance. As usual, and frankly deservedly, he was the butt of jokes and ridicule....but I never heard him talk ill of others. It was always HIS short comings, HIS need to drive himself. Maybe this is not the whole picture, but whenever I am tempted to say something derogatory about another, I think of Lance, who, amoung much derisive ridicule, never ridiculed another. This has always been my perception of Lance, who apparantly drove himself to self-destruction, but left me with a life lesson. Rest in peace, soldier.
