Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Dr. Maureen Lucy Schafer on October 24, 2021:
Dear Dad, I am honored and blest to have been your daughter. No matter what was going on in my life, you showed me that there is always a way forward. I thank you for - Living your Catholic faith in each moment - growing my strength and independent nature - teaching me to be fearless and stand on my own two feet - hanging in there during my acting out years (i.e., St Gertrude's, and golf flags) - trusting me to drive the Camaro - demonstrating justice, and being ready for a fight - taking me to faraway destinations and letting me explore, so that one day I went out and explored the world - making me understand that Math is not impossible - your pride and support of my Army career - the joy you took in my growing family, and wanting the best for each of your grandchildren - helping me look at things from different perspectives - teaching me how to love and respect people - daily demonstrating the value of being a lifetime learner - being there every step of the way....even in your last few weeks of life, fully engaged in others, and advising me on how to win at life I miss you. I have no doubt that you are in the arms of Jesus, and Mom is right there with you. I love you. maureeen
