Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Peter Elson on March 25, 2010:

Aloha Dixie, Mike, Ashley, The Chilcoat Ohana/family, and comrades of '64,

May the Peace of Our Lord which passeth all understanding be with each of you as we all sorrow at the loss of our beloved Dick.

Since I was a "runt" prepster, cadet, and officer, Dick always made me feel taller in both stature and spirit whenever we were together one-on-one.

I'll always remember the day in '67 when Dick treated me to lunch at the Tan Son Nhut O Club. After lunch, he
took me on a tour of his hangar and showed me his aircraft. Then he encouraged me to go back out in the "bush" around Cu Chi to take on the communists and take care of my men.

Many of us still remember Dick's words as he honored our fallen classmates (KIA's & others) at our 10th reunion at the West Point Cemetery that memorable Sunday morning.

As Dick wrote in our 2007 class roster, "see you again at West Point! Let's change that to read, We'll see you in Heaven, beloved comrade Dick".
