James George Gantsoudes

West Point, 1964

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by George D. Gantsoudes on October 30, 1999:

My father, the man I knew as Baba, was so very proud of his life at West Point as a plebe, cadet and beyond. He was the most honorable man I ever knew, and no one hesitated to follow his lead, either at work or at home. He loved his family and friends with a passion that is impossible to describe. He inspired his children to be honest, fit and, above all else, to never give up at anything--a tough lesson learned as he gallantly fought the cancer that eventually took his life.

He lost his courageous year and a half battle with cancer on October 17, 1997. He is survived by his children (Ages as of 10/30/99) George (23) and Alexis (21)--from his first marriage, Sarah (14), Spencer (12) and Nicholas (10), his wife Martha, his mother Helen, his sister Betsy and his brother Peter.

It is extremely difficult for me to put this incredible man's life into words. There is much more to say, but I think this describes my father well. He would greatly appreciate those of you who have chosen to remember him through eulogy.
