Be Thou At Peace
Posted by William R. I. "Easy" Smith on July 13, 2012:
Yo!
I had heard his name many times before I first set eyes on him. Our first meeting he was all smiles and from the vibes and conversation I knew he was a Wolfhound through and through. He did not hesitate to show his love, concern and passion for our young Warriors who were deployed. And yes, they knew him too. The name Pete Elson was and still is a staple at Schofield Barracks.
I personally had many brief talks with him about our time in Vietnam though in different Battalions. Our reflections of our experiences seemed like many others similiar in nature. He and many of the men he served with had not forgotten each other either. It was always a joy to see them greet each other as the bond has always remained.
But, what I will hold as a treasure, as part of his legacy is what he did on a daily basis. At 1:27 and at 2:27 he would pause in prayer. On the 27th of each calander quarter he would hold a rememberance service for our Soldiers down range. I have not perfected it, but I have practiced it since I first learned from him a few years ago.
Warrior, Friend, Brother You Will Not Be Forgotten
Take care, Wolfhounds Forever Easy!!!!! A 1/27 2nd Platoon, RVN 1967
