Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Steve Bliss on March 19, 2024:
Ray was always "Schaltz" to me. He and Jerry Merges were South Florida's gift to Army swimming, USMA and the Army and they were both great ones.
Ray became a good friend over our four years and was always a great teammate. He excelled in all he did in the pool, classroom and as a leader including finishing number one in the class in PE.
After graduation, I was fortunate to reconnect with him during the Career Course at Fort Lee. He had just finished a tour with the 25th ID in RVN.
Ray resigned his commission shortly thereafter and entered the private sector where he achieved much success. We kept in touch although not as frequently as I would have liked. That's probably mostly on me.
Of all his achievements, Ray's greatest was finding and marrying his wonderful wife Eleanor. She is the definition of a "keeper."
It's tough to lose such a good man and I will really miss him. May he rest in peace.
