Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Mark Davison on May 2, 2008:
My deepest condolences to Drew's family.
I met Drew at USMAPS way back in 1996. At the beginning of that year, he was chosen to be the Bravo Company commander, a clear sign of his ability to balance between being in charge and leading his peers.
The job was not unlike his prior service job of prison guard- at prep school we prided ourselves on upholding the standards ahead of buddies and personal considerations, per "Worth's Battalion Orders" which we learned to recite that first summer. Surprisingly, West Point wasn't as rigorous in that regard. Throughout, Drew managed to keep everyone's respect and friendship, something only the best were able to accomplish.
Drew was mature beyond his years even then, but he also had a great sense of humor: I remember he used to laugh at me in the latrine every morning when I would gag on my toothbrush in an attempt to clean my wisdom teeth.
This is incredibly sad. Drew's soldiers, and we of the Long Gray Line, have lost one of our finest. God bless you, buddy. Be thou at peace.
If somebody can post funeral information I'd appreciate it.
