Garrison Charles Avery

West Point, 2004

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by MAJ W. David Jones on February 7, 2006:

Garrison Avery was one of the finest cadets I knew. He was among my "original 64;" the first class of Yuks that I taught in Physics after I PCSed to West Point. I can tell you exactly where he sat in my classroom. He went on to be in the top 0.5% of cadets in PH203. He was a studious, quiet, thoughtful young man.

In his Firstie Year, we talked about posting to Fort Campbell, where he and his future wife would live, and even how to change his state of residency to Tennessee to save a few dollars...boring stuff to many, but important stuff to him.

I will miss my friend. I kept in touch with him through his years at USMA, and was proud to hear that he was assigned to my sister battalion at Fort Campbell.

We have an empty void now that nothing can fill. USMA lost one of its best; the Army has lost one of its finest young leaders, and the world has lost a truly caring man.

May we all remember Garrison and the things he did to make this world a better place.
