To the family and loved ones of Garrison Avery: Your son was one of the most genuinely selfless people I ever met in my life. Though I had just a few encounters with him at school, it was during Ranger School when I really came to know the true Gary - he was always the guy to lift your spirits, offer an encouraging word, and cause you to smile and find something funny in the midst of trying circumstances. And come to think of it, I never heard Gary complain. Not once. As these difficult times progress for you, all I can really say is that it is the memory of Gary and the desire to honor that memory that will inspire all of us who ever knew him to do our very best in all that we do. And I know, in a peaceful way, that Gary is in heaven right now, smiling, and in peace. -1LT Pete Erickson |
