Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Nick Loudon on February 9, 2006:

In the past year I've lost a number of friends and classmates. None hit as hard as Gary's death. In our tight knit group of friends within my company, Gary was the one who we always knew would do something great. He was the smart one, the one who was level headed, the one who was a stellar cadet at everything West Point had to offer, the one who'd give his friends the shirt off his back if they needed it, and without a doubt the only one of us no one could say one bad thing about. Most importantly though, he was the one person above all others who I wanted by my side in combat. Quiet and reserved yet the most badass guy I've ever met, Gary embodied the term "quiet professional". Gary and I went on to Ft. Benning for IOBC and Ranger School then parted to our respective units. For those of you that didn't know Gary, there was no better person. I can not even begin to describe how much I'll miss him, but I know that the pain of his friends pales in comparison to his wife and family. Gary, Jones and I will be there on Sunday and Monday brother. We're not missing this one.
