Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Kyle Hatzinger on February 24, 2011:

Daren was a rare one. Like his brothers and his entire family, you were immediately drawn to him. You wanted to be his friend and looked forward to spending time with him, fully knowing each time you would come away a better person. I don't think I ever saw Daren without a smile, and it was infectious. At the same time, his demeanor showed that he was a competent guy and would do anything for you when asked.

The loss of Daren truly underscores the cost of these wars: the very best America has. Those left behind can only wonder about the impact he would have made, "What would he have done in and after the Army? What kind of girl would he have married? What would is children have been like? Daren sacrificed this and so much more in his young promising life to answer the nation's call. We owe him and his family our profound and eternal thanks.

Daren, I hope this meets your requirement for a speech, "Keep it like a skirt: Long enough to cover the essentials but short enough to keep everyone interested." I will miss you greatly, especially hearing about your latest antics from Miles. And I want to thank you for your sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. See you on the high ground.

RLTW

Kyle
