Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Rev. Scott M. Stevenson on February 26, 2011:

We moved to Ft. Mac Dec. 27th 1974 from Cold, Cold Ft. Riley. It was so warm, we were playing golf at the end of Dec. in 68-70 degree weather. Aaahhhhh. It was wonderful. I go out to scout out this new Post, and Lo and Behold there are Craig and Lance tossing the football around. Craig waved me over and that's when it all started. Craig and Lance, Gen. and Mrs. Benedict became great and dear friends to me. (Cal and Genie weren't there at the time). General Benedict worked with me on my Golf Game, and I even got to play Big Canoe with the family. (Lance do you remember when I hit the tree over-the-water and it bounced back over the water and onto the green within inches of the hole-We were laughing so hard.} Probably a week doesn't go by when i don't think fondly of all the great times we had. I had dinner with Craig while he was an instructor at Benning. And I talked to Gen. Benedict by phone about 5 years ago. Thank-you, Mrs. Benedict, Craig, Lance, Cal, and Genie for openning your hearts and home to me. Gen. Benedict and this wonderful family made all the difference to me. I know Gen. Benedict is in the loving arms of our Mighty and Merciful Saving Lord, Jesus Christ. God-speed Gen. Benedict. Thank-you for always setting a great example to so many as you held our standards high-you brought-out the best in so many. Thanks for always being there.
