Be Thou At Peace

My Dad, LTC Edward Roy Hindman, Sr., USA, Retired, always enjoyed good music and he would really have loved the old Church very lively hymn called As A Volunteer, with words written by Mr. W. S. Brown and music composed by Mr. Charles H. Gabriel, copyrighted in 1907. Dad had prayed and gave his whole heart, soul and spirit to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ before he finally went to heaven at 4:16 a.m. on September 12, 2005. Dad became a true Christian soldier in God's Army as a volunteer for Jesus! Dad was a Captain and Battalion Commander in his final year at West Point so he knew very much about marching out on The Plain. This hymn is recorded here for your edification: A call for loyal soldiers Comes to one and all; Soldiers for the conflict, Will you heed the call? Will you answer quickly, With a ready cheer, Will you be enlisted As a volunteer? Refrain A volunteer for Jesus, A soldier true! Others have enlisted, Why not you? Jesus is the Captain We will never fear, Will you be enlisted As a volunteer? Yes, Jesus calls for soldiers Who are filled with pow'r, Soldiers who will serve Him Ev'ry day and hour; He will not forsake you, He is ever near; Will you be enlisted As a volunteer? Refrain He calls you, for He loves you With a heart most kind, He whose heart was broken, Broken for mankind; Now, just now, He calls you, Calls in accents clear, Will you be enlisted As a volunteer? Refrain And when the war is over, And the vict'ry won, When the true and faithful Gather one by one, He will crown with glory All who there appear; Will you be enlisted As a volunteer? Refrain. May you too know Jesus' saving grace and power as found in Ephesians chapter 2, verses 8-9! Jesus is the Captain of our salvation as found in Hebrews chapter 2 verse 10. May you too trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior!
